RE: Application for Master´s Degree in International Finances

Dear, Lily Kong

I have wide interest in pursuing a Master´s degree in International finances at Singapore Management University. I have already inspected all my options in the financial field and the one that your university have is that offers the most. What called my attention is the reviews the university have of the rankings of the best journals and the comprehensive program they offer and how valued it is in the financial sector.

I am currently studying at Higher Education Technology Institute of Monterrey in campus Queretaro and planning to graduate this spring with a Bachelor of International Business. My educational studies include coursework in exports and imports, customs logistics, international law and customs laws. My goal is to focus on international finance in order to learn more and be able to certify myself in this important branch and winning more experience.

I have previous experience because I work in several internships. I worked a semester in a project of imports to Holland in the city of Tampico. Also, a summer in the customs section in Manzanillo and, in the last year working as a practitioner in the company of Mars in logistics. I am a very active and energetic person motivated to learn and discover new contributions towards the world and my career. Besides I took a mandarin course and got a certificate in French. I consider myself a good candidate who can contribute a lot to the program since I am committed to my career and the world.

Storytelling

This is a storytelling that my mom inspired me to wrote.

Our grandmas can´t even dream to be in a big stage, to have a great job. Our mother already dreams it, but not all of them did it. And now, we as women are capable to dream it and do it.

In other times, even when we were kids, the “society” made us believe that our prince would arrive someday, that we had to dream with the perfect husband, wasn´t my case, the perfect family, to fulfill the obligations of women, but not to be successful. At the time you took a decision doesn´t matter if you’re a man or a woman, your decision may be the least popular.

My mom was 27 years when she got divorced. She was the first member in the whole family to do it. Of course, she was criticized, but she knew that what she was doing was for her sake and mine.

When I was younger, one year old to be specifically, my mom had opened a boutique with the help of my dad and when the time of the divorce came, my mom continued with the boutique and also move to a better location. My grandma never supported her economically since she was a kid.

Be a woman, and not to sound feminist, it is harder to start a business than a man because in our culture it´s not properly seen that a women do “man stuff”. The women can do thousands of things at the same time.  I can remember when my mom, even having work to do, with a lot of things in her head, she took the time to pass time with me, helping me with my homework, my costumers, waking up early for took me to school, etc. but she never neglect her business, because it was hers, was her dream, unlike she believes that no matter what other people said she will continue and had a lot of fade in it.

Over time the boutique was growing, and nowadays, 18 years later, is the best cloth store in the town, and still.

There were many times that people didn´t support her, but nobody born being brave, it is difficult to support those critics… Not necessarily you are going to be the most popular for the way you think or not many agree your ideas, but you got to keep going if you really believe in it.

One of the lessons that my mother has given me is that many times she has done it with fear, but she did it. Setting up a business, being a mother and continuing to grow is not of lucky people but brave people.

Argumentative text: Would you still be dancing?

Nowadays many people know that dancing is a way of expressing what we feel, and to practice it we only do it on special occasions. But the reality is that it is one of the best activities that can help us to fight stress, to relax, fill us with energy and feel liberated. Is a form of body expression accompanied by musical rhythms and in a way we can develop different abilities, it is an aerobic exercise that improve energy and lowered stress. I am here to talk about the benefits and risks of dancing.

Dance is a great stimulant in the production of endorphins, which provide us a good mental, physical, and psychological state; They also help us to stay healthy and strong from the inside out. But as the good things risks are very present in this practicing (OMENT,2016)

In recent years according to the national survey of CONACULTA the percentage of young people dance has increased by 11.6% compared to 2002 in which less than 4.6% of the population practiced dancing.

Another benefit of practicing dance is that for a moment it takes away from our minds the worries and tensions that we have (Lisa Bigelow); It elevates the body and makes us feel free, full of energy and vitality as it removes those chains from above that are the worries and tensions that bind us to being boring people. This helps society to act think more positive and with less anger. Dancing also increases creativity and self-esteem because through this your creativity starts to flow and at the same time you feel happy and proud of the achievements you have achieved with this new practice.

Dancing improves our brain systems however the didactic motor is the one that takes this to a whole different the motor activity of relationship are very creative that is why when you practice the dance you feel more relaxed, receptive and full of energy because through this you receive the emotions that music transmits, and you recharge your mind and body with positive energy.

Dancing is a sport and it must be considered serious and professional in order to get the best of it everywhere anywhere. Talking about some of things that people say about the bad things of workouts would be that you could get injured by practicing any sport or any type of exercise but if you analyze well how to do the activities injury risk diminish themselves a lot. On the other hand, some people battle against because they say they got no time to go workout because of their studies or because of work and now a days with all the technology we have you can pop-up a workout in your home in around 10-20 minutes. (AZCENTRAL,2018)

Every day we take risks from the moment we get out of bed and until the moment we are back in bed so there shouldn’t be problem on exercising your body so that it can have a better performance day by day. Having a good pre-dance exercises are key to avoid injuries or several accidents to our joints, bones and muscles.  It is recommended to stretch our whole body between 10 to 15 minutes before starting. The principal reason of injuries in bones is because a bad pre-workout exercise.

With all this we conclude that you should dance at any time, considering our inner music and letting the body be released through the emotions transmitted by music to dance and feel it. To have an maintain a good lifestyle it is important to take care of our physical and emotional health. Dancing help us with this so we must take into consideration to practice between once or twice a week. We must not forget that several doctors and institutions agree that dancing is beneficial for health and social activities. For these reasons and many more that exist I invite you to try to exercise in your free time. As soon as you start you will notice all of the benefits it brings you, and as an extra mix this with a good diet the results can be even better expected. Never stop being active and keep moving yourself.

The benefits & risks of dancing

Dance is an enjoyable health promoting physical activity which many people worldwide incorporate into their lifestyles today. This physical activity appeals to some who may not be active and therefore may be another alternative of exercise.Dancing is a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. It has a wide range of physical and mental benefits. You can dance in a group, with a partner, or on your own. Dancing has become such a popular way to be active and keep fit, that most fitness clubs now offer dance classes in their group exercise programs. Dancing can be done both competitively and socially. It can be a great recreational and sporting choice, because anyone of any age can take part.

Mental & physical health

Before this century people didn’t take care of their health, they didn’t notice unhealthy activities, food and habits that change dramatically our lifestyle & health. However times had changed and we are living in the information age in which more and more people take care of their body and mind.

Dancing has a wide range of physical, and mental benefits, it improves your physical & mental conditions. Physical improvements such as of your heart and lungs, increased muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness, increased aerobic fitness, improved muscle tone and strength, weight management. On the other hand mental improvements such as improved balance and spatial awareness, increased physical confidence, improved mental functioning, improved general and psychological well being, greater self-confidence and self-esteem, and better social skills. All of these benefits improve our daily lives and makes us fell better and with tons of energy to last longer.

Universities and doctors recommend

“Dancing demands a lot of energy output because it involves movement in all directions,” says Nick Smeeton, a principal lecturer at the University of Brighton. As any other sport such as running, swimming and other propulsive forms of physical activity you must use rhythm and momentum to keep you moving, its the same with dancing in which there is a lot of accelerating and decelerating in dancing, so the body is less able to do in an energy efficient way. An example could be; running is like driving on a freeway, dancing is more like motoring through a busy city. All of that starting, stopping and changing directions burns a lot of calories.

“Of course, the amount of energy you expend has a lot to do with how hard you’re pushing yourself.”  (Elliot Carnegie). Like other forms of cardio exercise, dancing also seems to have mood and mind benefits. A 2007 study found that hip hop dancing improved energy and lowered stress in ways similar to aerobic exercise.

A more recent study, published earlier this year in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, linked dancing to improved “white matter” integrity in the brains of older adults. Your brain’s white matter can be thought of as its connective tissue. That tissue tends to break down, which leads to a loss of processing speed and the thinking and memory problems that arise later in life, says Agnieszka Burzynska, an assistant professor of neuroscience at Colorado State University and that study’s first author.

Risks of dancing

Dance may look effortless, but it requires a lot of strength, flexibility and stamina. It also comes with a high risk of injuries, you should be aware of the most common dance injuries and learn how to avoid them.

A few studies that looked into dance injuries found that injuries from using your joints and muscles too much are the most common in dancers. The majority of these overuse injuries involve an ankle, leg, foot or lower back. If you experience pain, consult with a medical specialist preferably a physical therapist with experience in treating dancers. They will be able to determine whether additional testing is needed and will formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
